Huangqin, Radix Scetellariae Scetellariae Radix (Huangqin) is the dried root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, family Lamiaceae (Labiatae)

Extracts of Scetellariae Radix, total flavonoids and baicalin have anti-pyretic effect. Scutellariae Radix has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-microorganism and anti-endotoxin activities. It also has hepato-protective, decrease blood lipid and anti-oxidative activities. Scutellariae Radix extract and its major flavonoid components (baicalin, baicalein wogonin) have inhibitory effect on several tumor cell-lines. Anti-tumor mechanism relates to the regulation of the metabolism of arachidonic acid, affecting the cell cycle, inducing tumor cell apoptosis and anti-agiogenesis. Bitter in flavor, cold in nature.
